Pregnancy Checklist

Congratulations! Welcoming a new baby is an exciting and special time.

Hire a doula.

Studies show that doula support can lead to shorter labors, fewer interventions, (like C-sections or use of epidurals), and higher satisfaction with the birth experience. Doulas are experienced and  know the standards of care in all types of birth settings.

Here's a checklist to help you prepare-so you can stress less and enjoy more.

 □  Decide where you’d like to deliver your baby (check your doctor’s hospital privileges).

□  Tour your hospital’s birth suite.

□  Pre-register at the hospital.

□  Set up your baby registry.

□  Start designing your nursery.

□  Wash baby’s clothes.

□  Pack your hospital bag. Be sure to include items for both you and your baby.

□  Install rear-facing infant car seat.

□  Choose a pediatrician.

□  Attend a childbirth class.

□  Determine a birth plan.

□  Stock up on household essentials.

□  Clean your house and car just before your due date.

□  Prepare freezer meals to enjoy the first two weeks after birth.

□  Obtain a breast pump (check with your health insurance plan to see if they provide one).

□  Stock up on diapers and wipes (newborn and size 1).

□  Gather some postpartum essentials like comfortable underwear and pads, nipple/ nursing pads, lanolin, and button-down shirts/pajamas.

□ Contact your organization’s human resources team to learn more about your parental leave options (if applicable).

□ Plan a fun date night.

□ Arrange health insurance for your baby.

□ Determine your childcare plan (if necessary).

□ Plan care for older children and pets during the birth.

□ Schedule a maternity session with a photographer around 32 weeks (if desired).
